We start with a comprehensive on-site inspection to assess the issue. Whether it's water leaks, mould growth, or structural damage, we identify the root cause and evaluate the current waterproofing system. This process includes a thorough examination of the affected areas, such as balconies, bathrooms, basements, or roofs. We use industry-leading tools to detect hidden moisture and potential vulnerabilities.
After the inspection, we provide a detailed analysis outlining the possible cause of the waterproofing failure, photographs of the affected areas, and expert recommendations for remediation. This report ensures you have a clear understanding of the issue and the required repairs. We focus on identifying possible appropriate waterproofing systems needed, such as liquid membranes, sheet membranes, or other solutions that comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Standards (AS).
Some clients may struggle with understanding the technical details in the report, such as the specific causes of waterproofing failure and the recommended solutions. Terms like "upturns" or "wind class," along with compliance references to the NCC and AS, can be overwhelming. We break these down in plain language so you can make informed and educated decisions.
CRITICAL STAGE
Often, you find yourself relying on information that may be difficult to understand, which increases the risk of misdiagnosing the issue. The problem could be minor, requiring only a simple fix, or it could be exaggerated by a contractor looking to inflate costs unnecessarily. It's crucial to ask yourself whether the contractor has the necessary qualifications, experience, and licenses to carry out the work competently. In Victoria, there is no mandatory licensing for waterproofing work, so it is crucial to hire someone with proven expertise in installing the correct waterproofing system
We help by reviewing the contractor’s plans and ensuring that they follow correct waterproofing practices and ensure they use appropriate materials and methods for your specific situation. If they choose to follow our recommendations, we will provide guidance for them on this.
Our role is also to assist you in navigating this complex landscape by vetting qualified professionals and reviewing the information they provide so that you are fully aware and understanding of what they are pricing on. This may include the fine detail about the systems they are applying. This not only protects your investment but also provides peace of mind that the job will be done correctly and efficiently.
We offer you our unbiased assistance in selecting the most appropriate contractor and this is where we may issue an Inspection Test Plan (ITP) to any contractor.
CRITICAL STAGE
Before the contractor begins waterproofing, we conduct a pre-application inspection to ensure that all substrates are properly installed, prepared and the correct materials (such as primers) are ready for use. This is a critical stage—poor preparation can lead to future failures, even with the best waterproofing systems.
This stage is crucial but often overlooked by clients. Proper surface preparation is key to the success of the waterproofing system, yet many clients don't know how to verify this. Missing this step can result in future failures. We ensure that the materials are correct, and appropriate and the surfaces are properly prepared before work begins.
CRITICAL STAGE
During the application process, we offer additional site visits to monitor the installation of the waterproofing system. Whether it’s a liquid-applied membrane or a sheet membrane, we verify that the contractor follows the manufacturer’s specifications and the correct application techniques. Proper curing times, membrane thickness, and coverage are essential for a long-lasting waterproofing solution.
ITP Reporting - more information here
During the waterproofing installation process, one of the most critical aspects is adhering to an Inspection Test Plan (ITP) and establishing hold points to ensure that every stage is properly inspected before moving forward. However, many clients are unaware of the importance of these quality control measures and often leave it entirely in the hands of contractors. Without proper oversight, the waterproofing system may not meet industry standards, leaving the property at risk of future leaks or failures.
We can offer our full ITP (Inspection Test Plan) service - this requires multiple site visits at these critical stages such as substrate acceptance, priming, detailing, membrane application, membrane testing, membrane protection, membrane backfill or overlay.
Critical Stage
After the waterproofing system is installed but before the final finishes (such as tiling or rendering) are applied, we conduct a post-repair inspection. We verify that the waterproofing work complies with the NCC, AS, and all relevant Technical Data Sheets (TDS). This is a crucial step to ensure that the waterproofing system has been installed correctly and will perform as expected over time.
Understanding the compliance standards set by the NCC, AS, and TDS is often confusing for clients. Without an expert eye, it’s difficult to confirm whether the waterproofing installation truly meets these standards. Our post-repair inspection ensures that the work is compliant, preventing future issues and costly repairs.
If the membrane installation is not acceptable (i.e film thickness not achieved), it can be identified and fixed at this stage before overlaid finishes are applied. This is CRITICAL to identify.
Once the post-repair inspection is complete and the work is compliant, we provide you with a final report confirming that the waterproofing system is up to standard. This documentation gives you peace of mind that your property is now protected from future water damage and that the issue has been resolved thoroughly and correctly.
We believe in transparent and competitive pricing for our waterproofing consultation and compliance services. Our fees are structured to reflect the value of our expertise and the thoroughness of our work. We offer a clear breakdown of costs during your initial consultation, so you know exactly what to expect. Whether you need a comprehensive site inspection, a detailed report, or post-repair compliance checks, our pricing is designed to ensure you receive exceptional service without any hidden fees. Your investment in our services safeguards your property and provides peace of mind against future water damage.
